Introduction to RBI

Importance of RBI in industries

Risk Based Inspection (RBI) is a structured approach to assess and manage the risk of failure of pressure equipment. It is a proactive strategy used in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation to identify equipment with a high probability of failure and prioritize inspection resources, maintenance, and repair.

RBI includes the use of risk assessment techniques to quantitatively and qualitatively assess the probability of failure and the potential consequences of equipment failure. This helps operators make informed decisions about equipment maintenance and replacement, while optimizing costs, ensuring safety and reliability.

Services of the Iranian Technical Inspection Company in RBI

After signing a contract with the British LIFETECH company, Iranian Technical Inspection Company localized and registered the software on the Iranian server under the name of is a world-class AIM and RBI software package that has the ability to assess risk based on three methods: Quantitative, Semi-Quantitative and Qualitative.

Risk-based inspection may be applied to any industrial sector, but the most interest has been in the power and petrochemical sectors. In 2006, the UK Health and Safety Executive published a report on best practice for risk-based inspection as part of plant integrity management. In 2000, the European Commission launched the RIMAP project to develop risk-based inspection and maintenance methods for European industry. The American Petroleum Institute (API) has published a recommended practice and a basic source document for risk-based inspection of refineries.

Information obtained from this process to identify (a) the type of damage that may exist, (b) where such damage may occur, (c) the speed at which such damage may occur, and (d) ) to be used where failure may cause hazard
